SUNY Binghamton’s Beyond Coal Campaign was launched in September, 2009 to transition BU beyond coal to 100% clean, renewable energy sources. Part of the Sierra Club’s national Coal-Free Campus Campaign taking place on over 30 campuses across the country, BU’s chapter will continue our work this semester to kick our dependence on the nation’s dirtiest power source: Coal.
After only three months of concerted student organizing, coalition building and media outreach, we worked with BU’s administration to win a commitment to transition BU to 100% biomass by 2020. But the planet can’t wait that long. This spring, we’re striving to make BU coal-free by 2015 – a time frame that leading climate scientists say is necessary to prevent the worst effects of Global Warming.
You can get involved right now, and help BU become a national leader in energy efficiency and renewable energy. Internships for credit are available for the semester. Gain valuable skills working with media, coalition building, grassroots campaigns and more!
